Adding Users to Your Firm

How to add new users so that they can have access to the firm's cases and enter new cases

Written by Emma Ceniza

Adding Users to Your Firm

Each paid plan now includes a set number of user seats. Seats can be assigned to new team members or freed up if someone leaves your firm. You can see your seat usage at the top of the User Accounts and Invites page:

Inviting a New User

  1. From your Account Settings > User Accounts and Invites, find an open seat row and click + Send Invite.

  2. In the Invite a team member window, enter the user's email address, select their role, and click Send Invite.

  3. The user will receive an email to verify their account and sign in to NextChapter.

Adding more seats

If all of your paid seats are filled, you'll need to add seats before inviting or assigning anyone new. Click Manage Users / Plan, use the Add seats counter, then click Save Changes.

Managing pending invitations and access

You can resend or delete a pending invitation, or revoke a user's account access entirely, at any time from the user table. To free up a seat without removing the user, click Unassign next to their name.

If the person already has a NextChapter account

If you invite someone who already has a NextChapter login, you'll see a message that their email is already associated with an existing firm. This usually means they started signing up under a different firm or never finished verifying their account.

In this situation, inviting that user won't move their existing account into your firm automatically. Instead, contact support@nextchapterbk.com with the user's email address, and we can assist with either transferring the user to your firm or by helping the user complete verification.

If your firm has more than 6 users

Plans purchased before September 9, 2026 included up to 6 users at no extra cost. If your firm has more than 6 active users, you'll need to add seats to cover everyone (Manage Users / Plan → Add seats), or, for larger firms, use the "Talk to us about enterprise pricing" link in that same window. Until every active user has an assigned seat, unassigned users will be blocked from accessing cases when they log in.
