Fastcase -> NextChapter - What's Migrating?

This article will show you what is migrating from Fastcase and where it's migrating into your NextChapter account

Written by Katie Stasiulewicz

NextChapter has migrated as much of your case data as possible but not all fields were able to be transferred exactly as it was in Fastcase because they store their data a bit differently than NextChapter does. Please review this article for important notes on anything that may have migrated but needs review by a member of your staff.

Account Settings

Account > My Account Settings > Billing/Credit Card

If you had a credit card on file with Fastcase that will be imported to this section. If you did not, please make sure to add one as it will be required prior to download or filing. However, you won't be prompted for payment and you will be on Fastcase loyalty pricing.

Account > My Account Settings > Firm Details

Please make sure to edit this section to assign the correct timezone and the correct Primary District. You should also verify that all information is up to date and make any changes as necessary.

Account > My Account Settings > My User Profile

You can fill out this section to save your ECF credentials, bar information, email, etc and this will be used for ECF filing and to complete the voluntary petition as well.

Account > My Account Settings > Common Creditors

This will not be automatically migrated. You can easily export this data from Fastcase though and import into NextChapter if you do not want to start fresh with this list:

  1. Login to FCBK

  2. Click Preferences

  3. Click Master Addresses

  4. Click Export

  5. CSV file saves to computer

Debtor(s) Contact Information

Client Profile > Filing Information, Debtor Profile, Debtor Addresses

This section will store all of the basic case information that is used to generate the voluntary petition and pertinent information for ECF filing such as chapter, attorney, case number, addresses, debtor names, dependents, etc.

Make sure to double check Debtor Profile > Debtor Addresses and make sure the address on file has a county saved to it.

Property and Exemptions

Real Property > Properties Owned
Personal Property > Various tabs

The exemptions will be attached to each piece of individual property. This section will make up Schedule A/B and Schedule C. Please note* Fastcase did not ask what type of lease a piece of property was but NextChapter requires it be listed as "real estate, unknown or other." For the import, all of your leases will show in the tab labeled Executory Contracts but you should edit any vehicles and change the type to car from the dropdown. You can then select the vehicle from the asset dropdown so they are correctly tied together.

Income and Expenses

Income > Employment Income & Non-Employment Income

The employer information will be imported but not all pay advice information will because NextChapter stores this data differently. You will retain access to all Fastcase data though so you can transfer any income data over if it's still needed to finish a case.

Expenses > Various Tabs

All expenses will migrate and can be edited within the Expenses tab.

Attorney Disclosure

Account > My Account Settings > Attorney Fee Disclosure (very last tab)

The attorney disclosure will not migrate automatically but it's very easy to set up. You will need to go to your Account Settings to set up any disclosures that you use. This will only set up the language that you include on line 5d and line 6 of the form (what you include and exclude with your fees). After that, you can select the disclosure in your case by going in your case and going to:

Miscellaneous > Attorney/Credit Counseling Fees

In here you will select the disclosure from the dropdown and put in any fees, exceptions, etc.

SOFA and Means Test

NextChapter doesn't store our data like Fastcase does for these forms. We have very handy SOFA Review and Means Test Review tabs that you can use to see each line of the form, what your answer is, quick links to revisit those sections and an orange question mark next to each line that links to a Help Center article that walks you step by step through answering every question.

Document Storage

Additional Documents > Client Document Storage

You have unlimited storage within this folder and can drag and drop or upload any pertinent case documents into this section.
