Resolving the "Attorney Fees" Alert on the Review Screen

This article walks through the "Attorney Fees" requirement so you can clear the alert and move on to filing.

Written by James Brooks

When you reach Review and File > Review, NextChapter checks that a Disclosure Statement has been selected for the case. If the Attorney Fees card shows a red alert icon instead of a green checkmark, you'll typically see the following error message:

What NextChapter Checks

The Attorney Fees card passes once a Disclosure Statement has been chosen for the case under: Miscellaneous > Attorney / Credit Counseling Fees > Attorney's Fee Disclosure > Choose Disclosure Statement

If no statement has been selected, the card will show the red alert icon and the error above.

Step 1: Confirm a Disclosure Statement Has Been Saved to Your Firm

Disclosure Statements are set up within your Account Settings and can then be reused across cases.

  1. Go to My Account Settings > Attorney Fee Disclosure Statement.

  2. Confirm that at least one Disclosure Statement has been created, with the standard language your firm uses for line 5 of the federal Disclosure of Compensation form.

  3. If your firm uses more than one version (for example, different language depending on case type), you can save multiple statements here, each with its own title.

Tip: From this same settings page, you can also check specific lines to strike through on a saved statement, which is useful for indicating sections that don't apply to a particular debtor.

Step 2: Select the Disclosure Statement on the Case

  1. From the case menu, go to Miscellaneous > Attorney / Credit Counseling Fees.

  2. Find the Attorney's Fee Disclosure section.

  3. Under Choose Disclosure Statement, select the statement your firm wants used for this case.

  4. Complete the remaining fields in this section as applicable, including whether fees were or will be paid by someone other than the debtor, and the relevant fee amounts.

  5. The selection will save automatically once made.

Confirming the Fix

Once a Disclosure Statement has been selected under Miscellaneous > Attorney / Credit Counseling Fees, return to Review and File > Review. The Attorney Fees card should now display a green checkmark instead of the red alert icon.
