When you reach Review and File > Review, NextChapter checks that the attorney assigned to the case is properly set up to file in that case's district. If the Filing Information card shows a red alert icon instead of a green checkmark, it means the attorney and district on the case don't line up.
What NextChapter Checks
The Filing Information card passes only when both of the following are true:
An Attorney is selected on the case, under Client Profile > Filing Information.
The selected attorney's district matches the District entered for the case.
Every attorney in the Attorney dropdown is listed with their district abbreviation next to their name, for example: Attorney Name - OHNB. If the district shown on that attorney's listing doesn't match the District selected for the case, the card will show the red alert icon.
Step 1: Confirm the District Entered on the Case
From the case menu, go to Client Profile > Filing Information.
In the Filing Information panel, check the District field. For example, a case might show Ohio - Southern.
Note the district shown — this is the district the case will be filed in.
Step 2: Confirm the Attorney's District Matches
On the same screen, click the Attorney dropdown.
Look at the district abbreviation listed after each attorney's name (e.g., Attorney Name - OHSB for Ohio Southern).
Confirm the currently selected attorney's district abbreviation matches the District noted in Step 1.
If it doesn't match, you have two options:
Select a different attorney from the dropdown whose listed district matches the case's District, or
Add an additional Attorney Profile within My Account Settings > My User Profile > Additional Profiles.
Step 3: Add an Attorney Profile for the Correct District (If Needed)
If none of the attorneys listed in the dropdown show the correct district, you can add an additional profile for that attorney under a different district:
Go to Account Settings > My User Profile for that attorney.
Scroll to the Additional Profiles section.
Add a new profile with the correct Bar State and Bar District for the district the case needs.
Click Save Changes.
Return to Client Profile > Filing Information and open the Attorney dropdown — the new profile will now appear as an additional entry for that attorney, listed with its own district abbreviation.
Select the profile that matches the case's District.
Note: Every profile added under Additional Profiles — for any attorney — automatically populates as its own entry in the Attorney dropdown on every case. This allows one attorney to appear multiple times in the dropdown, once for each district they're set up to file in.
Confirming the Fix
Once the selected attorney's district matches the case's District, return to Review and File > Review. The Filing Information card should now display a green checkmark instead of the red alert icon.
