If your client's pay advices are already recorded in a spreadsheet, you can skip manual entry by importing them directly into NextChapter as a CSV file. You can also export any pay advices you've already entered — useful for record-keeping or for moving data between cases.
Note: Import is only available for the All Pay Advices method, and only applies to pay advice data. Employment information (employer, address, occupation, pay period, etc.) must still be entered manually before you import.
Importing Pay Advice Data
1. Add the employment information first.
Before you can import, you'll need to select an Employment Type and enter the Company name. The "Import Pay Advice Data" option stays greyed out until both fields are filled in. If you are using Non Employment Income you'll need to select an Income Source.
2. Select "Import Pay Advice Data."
With All Pay Advices selected as your income entry method, choose the Import Pay Advice Data radio button.
3. Download the template (if you haven't already) and choose your file.
A CSV Import window will open. If you don't already have your data in the correct format, click download the template here to get the CSV template, fill it in, and save it.
Once your file is ready, click Choose file to select it from your computer.
4. Confirm your import.
Each row in the CSV becomes a separate pay advice entered into that same income source. Once the file is uploaded, review the pay advices that were created to make sure everything imported correctly, then Save & Close.
*Tip: Since this method uses the All Pay Advices entry type, NextChapter will still use the most recent pay advice for Schedule I and calculate the Means Test average from all pay advices entered — the same as if you'd entered them manually. See Income - All Pay Advices for more on how those calculations work.
Exporting Pay Advice Data
If you've already entered pay advices for an income source, you can export them to a CSV file. Click Export Pay Advices on the income source to download all pay advice data that's been entered — not just employment income, but any other income entered for that source as well.
This is a handy way to keep a copy of your entries outside the case, or to reuse the same pay advice data on another case by re-importing the exported file.
