Sending the Initial Invite
After you've signed up for MyChapter, you can invite your client to the MyChapter Debtor Portal from their case.
Start by creating a new case in NextChapter for your client from your firm dashboard.
From the Filing Information section, you can select if the case will be an individual or joint filing.
If the case is a joint filing, click on Joint Debtor Profile to add the second debtor's name.
Next, add your client's email address in the Contact dropdown on the Case Dashboard.
Then, select your client's email address from the Client Portal dropdown. This is where we will send the invitation.
A note on joint filings: the initial invite can only be sent to one email address at a time, the one selected in the Client Portal dropdown above. To get both debtors into the portal, send the initial invite to the first debtor, then use the Resend option (covered below) to send a second invite to the joint debtor's email address.
Checking Invitation Status
Once the invitation is sent, you'll see the status of portal for this case in the Case Dashboard.
You can also view the status of all client portal invitations by clicking on Debtor Portal in the top menu of the application.
Notifications: Once your client submits the portal to the attorney for review, you will receive an email notification and the case portal status will change to "Ready to Review" in the Debtor Portal section of NextChapter.
Re-Invite Your Client: How to Send your Client Back to the Portal
If you need to resend an invite, click on the resend button from the Client Portal dashboard. Enter your client's email address and a message for the debtor which will be included in the email.
Unlike the initial invite, Resend lets you type in any email address, not just the one originally invited. This is how you can invite a second person to the same case, for example a joint debtor, or a friend or family member helping the debtor complete the questionnaire.
You also have the option to send the client back from within the questionnaire:
When you send the portal back to your client through MyChapter, you will also be CC'd on the email sent to them. If you are not receiving that CC, verify the notification recipient email is set to your address by checking the gear icon (Settings) of the Client Portal section on the Case Dashboard. This can be overridden on a per-case basis from that same screen.
**Please note that once a client's portal is imported into their case, their MyChapter access becomes Read-Only. While they can no longer add or edit data, they can still securely upload and send documents through the portal for you to import by clicking "Send MyChapter Back To Debtor" after import.
